Fall is not quite here but already there’s lots of activity going on both in our office and throughout our Habitat communities. We will be building nine new homes in Hillcrest East in the next few months. As you all know that takes lots of supplies and lots of volunteers. We’d like to ask for your help and patience with a couple of things:
PLEASE, if at all possible, DO NOT park on the street in Hillcrest East, especially during the week, for the next couple of months. This will help us get big trucks in and out safely. James, the construction crew, and all of our suppliers thank you for helping us out with this.
Also, we understand that there has been a bit of a problem in the past couple of weeks getting some mail on Saturdays. Please know that we’re doing everything we can think of to help the situation. We’ve scheduled a Thursday and Friday build which should help alleviate some of the heavy traffic and parking dilemmas. We’ve made ‘No Parking’ signs to post, alerted all our SPM’s and volunteers, and are encouraging people to park far enough away from the mailboxes or off-site. One of our sponsors is busing people in and out. Dean, our construction manager, even waited last week for the mailman and personally delivered mail to people whose mailboxes were not easily accessible! If you have a suggestion as to what else might help, please let us know. Otherwise, please be patient with us and know we are doing everything we can.
Again thank you for being the BEST Habitat families! Each one of you brings something special to the community and to all of us here at Habitat.
P.S. You’re going to love our nine new families!
As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. So making smart decisions about your home’s heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can have a big effect on your utility bills — and your comfort.
Furnace filters cost very little, and are usually sold in quantity packs to save you even further. Replacing filters once a month – especially in the the cold winter months and hot summer months – improves the furnace’s efficiency, helps it last much longer, and provides health benefits as well.
A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool — wasting energy. A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system — leading to expensive maintenance and/or early system failure.
A furnace that does not work efficiently, will cost you more money in energy.
To know what you need for size, pull out the old filter, they are usually located for easy access on the furnace. The size will be marked on it, be careful to note the full dimensions, as even thickness is important. Filters are available from hardware, grocery, and discount stores.

We are absoultely convinced that we have THE BEST homeowners of all the Habitats anywhere! With over 200 homes to choose from, our decision on who to pick each month is very difficult. However, in our eyes you are all winners (and there are 12 months in the year) so don’t give up.
Do you have someone you’d particularly like to nominate? Someone you know has worked extra hard and should be recognized? Let us know (it’s ok to nominate yourself). Also, do you have any tips or ideas for other homeowners? Feel free to post them under comments or call and we’ll do it for you. We’re all about neighbor helping neighbor and learning from each other.
It’s an exciting time! Cobb Habitat is expanding its reach into Douglas and Paulding Counties and with that comes not only a larger geographic area but a new name. Effective immediately, our new name is Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta.
We’ll be gradually incorporating the new name into our letterhead, signs, website etc. Please help us with this change by addressing all future checks and correspondence to: Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta.

Dear Habitat Homeowners,
It is with deep regret that I announce the passing of one of our most respected and most dedicated members of the Gray Ghosts. If you live in a home built by Cobb Habitat in the previous ten years, Roy Brumley probably had a hand in its construction. Roy invested untold hours in Habitat, its volunteers, sponsors, SPM’s, Crew Leaders, and homeowner families.
Roy was the go-to-man, the leader of the Ghosts, the reliable, experienced, available, dependable personification of the spirit by which our homes are built. Roy lived alone, had no children, and no immediate local family. His brother, Harold Brumley, lives in Texas and is himself in poor health and cannot attend the funeral.
When Roy did not report for work with the Ghosts on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, a close friend went to his home to check on him. Sensing something was wrong, 911 was called and they discovered Roy had passed on to be with the Lord.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, at 3:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home, 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, Georgia (770-977-9485). The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Cobb Habitat for Humanity.
In 2006, Cobb Habitat recognized Roy by naming a street after him in Hillcrest West—Brumley Cove Drive. A certificate of appreciation will be sent to his brother Harold, and later this year, the GMAC house currently under construction in Hillcrest East, will be dedicated in his memory.
Sincerely,
John R. Kerwood
Presidnt & CEO
