Several homeowners have called our office recently regarding letters they’ve recieved in the mail with headlines like, ” Final Notice-Complete and Return” or Important Notice to (Your Name), Complete and Return.” The notices pertain to mortgage disability insurance, look official, and sound urgent. They typically include personal information including name, address, qualification code, and the remaining mortgage balance.

These are junk mail and should be thrown out immediately. Cobb Habitat will not send out, or have anything sent to you for disability insurance, mortgages, entitlement programs etc. We will never give your name or personal information out to any outside agencies. But be aware that there are public records accessible to companies wanting to market their products and services. The companies research this information and include it in letters designed to confuse people into buying their products or services.

Don’t be fooled! If you have any questions about any official looking document you receive and are not sure what to do, PLEASE call our office. We are always happy to help.

Post a response to any article on our new site and we’ll put the names of everyone who posts in a hat on July 11 and draw winners for a variety of gift certificates. We’ll then announce the winners on the website. And don’t stop posting your responses, we plan to make the drawing a regular happening.

Have you started your summer vegetable garden yet? If you haven’t, now is the perfect time. Tomatos are readily available at most garden centers and provide a bounty of fresh, healthy goodness throughout the warm summer months.

Two plants that do very well with tomatoes are basil and marigolds. Basil enhances the flavor of tomatoes, while marigolds emit a substance through their roots that deter nematodes in the soil. Nematodes are primary causes of root rot and other diseases in tomatoes.

I also recommend growing lettuce and radishes between tomato plants. They are both fast growers and will mature well before the tomatoes get large. An added benefit is that the tomatoes will shade the lettuce allowing you to grow lettuce in the warmer weather without danger of the plants bolting to seed.

Have fun and let us, and others know how your garden is growing!

Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me: I loved you enough to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren’t perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough . . . to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it. Those were the most difficult battles of all. I’m glad I won them, because in the end you won, too. And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them. Read the rest of this entry »
